The Petrarch Press

Join Us at CODEX 2013!

CODEX Foundation Logo.In 2007, the first CODEX bookfair gathered together an impressive congress of the world’s finest private presses, book artists, artisans, curators, collectors, and scholars. This year’s CODEX International Book Fair and Symposium is coming soon, from February 10 through 13, 2013 at the Craneway Pavilion in Richmond, California. Among this fine company of over 180 international printers and book artists, we are glad to have our place. We hope you will come find us there!

CODEX 2011 Book Fair.Since the last CODEX, we’ve been carefully preparing a new edition of the Sonnets of William Shakespeare. This edition will restore elements of the first, 1609 edition, and will be presented in an intimate, smaller format with each sonnet on its own page. The Cloister types for this edition will be entirely cast in our own type foundry. Be sure to sign up at our table to receive the hand-printed prospectus when it is released in the coming weeks.

For true book lovers, we are pleased to offer the first in a series of Valentine book/cards: Love Song (Liebeslied) by Rainer Maria Rilke.

For Petrarch Press collectors, we will be bringing broadsides of Abraham Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address, and Walt Whitman’s poem Prayer of Columbus.

A number of unbound leaves from earlier Petrarch Press editions will also be available for purchase. These selected pages printed on parchment and traditional papers offer new collectors an affordable way to enjoy and appreciate fine printing on traditional materials, and provide book arts educators with sheets suitable for hands-on examination.

We will, of course, have copies of our Canticle of the Creatures by Francis of Assisi, Gospel According to Philip and the luxurious Thoughts from the Letters of Petrarch.

The CODEX Foundation has a worthy aim to preserve and promote the art and craft of the book. We share that aim and hope to see you at CODEX.
